i can’t tell you that this is a magnificent film that deserves five stars! but i went in to the moviehouse with my expectations limited to having several good laughs and going down memory lane. back when i wasn’t even a teen yet. on that note, the film did not disappoint!

the story and its plot was dumb. even the special effects. but who says you must enter a moviehouse expecting to see a flick headlined by TITO, VIC AND JOEY so you could be blown away by an excellent BEST PICTURE caliber movie. if that is the case, you’re the dumb one.

here are the top ten thoughts that i had during and after watching ISKUL BUKOL 20 YEARS AFTER…
1. iskul bukol was an excuse to attract moviegoers to a typical vic sotto filmfest entry with a familiar catch…the reunion was negligible and the coincidences in the film were stupid.
2. tvj definitely has great chemistry together, period.
3. vic was overshadowed by tito and joey…ungasis fits the bill of satisfying the children moviegoers while the escaleras remind us of how much we missed their kagulangan, kabastusan, and kakapalan.
4. tito sotto defied my low expectations. he was definitely back and seem so comfortable with his comedy.
5. surprisingly, jimmy santos made me laugh so hard again.
6. how shallow can the rest of the cast of characters be! from the tvj children to the eb babes. (although i love drooling about the DHs, joyce and madel!)
7. the limited time together of tvj on screen makes a die hard fan want more.
8. the stupidity of the plot and scenes were so typical of their 80s box office hits. nostalgic cravings were satisfied.
9. i still can’t believe that i’m seeing a tvj film after 18 years.
10. mickey, the afternoon, 10M pesos fake peseta, ruby rodriguez scandal, secret relationship, surigao, alice john, and liwayway gawgaw…

despite the bakya crowd, i was the loudest laugher at Robinson’s Metro East that Christmas night. i dig tvj comedy. i won’t make excuses for that.

it made me laugh. i could not ask for more. i got what i wanted, 18 years after the last tvj film i saw on theater… maybe next year again.
